The Gatehouse

Controlling the drawbridge over the moat, the gatehouse, of Norman origin was successfully extended forward between the twelfth and the seventeenth centuries.

The gatehouse is the only means of entry to the inner castle and leads through to the souvenir shop where entry tickets, gifts, souvenirs and useful literature are sold.

The inner castle and keep are well worth seeing and the views of the surrounding countryside, harbours and seascapes, from the top of the keep, are an experience not be missed.
