South East Range, Gatehouse, Kitchen and Larder

Looking down from the top of the Keep into the inner castle the southeast range, gatehouse, kitchen and larder are easily identified.

The safety of those residing in the inner castle is immediately apparent, thick walls surround the inner area, a drawbridge over a deep moat is the only access, and an open view all round ensures that any would be aggressor would be seen long before they posed a threat to those in the inner area of the castle.
